Celebrating Heroes’ Day in the Philippines

by Jomvie
(Francis’ Full-Time VA)

Last August 25, 2014 (Sunday) we commemorated our National Heroes’ great deeds and contribution to our country. And since it fell on a Sunday, the occasion and ceremonial rites were moved on the next day which is a Monday.

You can check my post to know more about The Philippines’ National Holidays.

Why Do We Have To Celebrate Heroes’ Day?

The Philippines had a colorful, intense and exciting story from the past that will greatly stir your emotions.

And, Heroes’ Day is just our own little way of giving thanks to these people who shed their lives for the greater good of our country.

For over 333 years of being held captive from foreign captors to our very own government’s dictatorship, a few numbers of brave men came out strong to go against tyrannies.

Even after hundreds of years passed, the oppressors are still present and lurking.

Last month’s occasion which is supposedly a happy day of commemoration, was faced with a large number of activists, waving their placards with negative contents on it and shouting on the streets with rants against the government.

Belting out Rants?

In my opinion, it’s an inappropriate day of showing off rage against the government where it can be held on another day, at another point in time.

The Ceremonial Rites

During the occasion, the government staff, officials and the president hold ceremonial rites to the parks where statues of national heroes were at.
They will offer a wreath of flowers, a moment of silence, speeches and a gun salute.

Sep 17, 2014 What are they protesting about?
by: Francis

Every country has their problems, obviously, but as an employer of a Virtual Assistant from the Philippines, it makes sense to know about major political problems. What are the Filipino people protesting against when they protested on that holiday to the government?

Do you believe in building bridges between different people based on mutual trust and respect? Do you think doing this will allow both sides to draw the maximum from each other, and reach a win win situation? Where you win, and the other person - like a virtual assistant -also wins? If you do believe this, like I do, I think we should meet :)
