Increase Dropbox Space With Simple Workarounds

A discussion between my friend Lukas and me

Since I know how easy it is to increase dropbox space, I did it as a service for a friend and asked about his opinion afterwards.

FrancisFrancis

Hey Lukas, has your Dropbox storage had been expanded yet?

Lukas

Yeah, it was pretty easy. Well, I really didn’t have to do much since I just sent you the link from my Dropbox and it expanded up to—let me have a look… up to 17.8 gigabytes. It’s pretty cool!

FrancisFrancis

So it didn’t reach 20 gigabytes yet?

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Ah, no, but I think 17 gigabytes are good enough for my purposes and that I will be able to upload any photos that I want and even share some videos which will be a lot bigger than those of my friends’. So, it will suit my purposes—I think.

FrancisFrancis

Okay, great! Don’t you want to know how I was able to expand your Dropbox from 2 to 17 gigabytes?

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Of course, I would like to know your trick because a lot of my friends who own Dropbox accounts that can only store roughly around 2 gigabytes. You can’t really put many photos in it given that you have a good camera with good quality photos.

When you go to a party for example, you can’t capture and make about a hundred photos—which take a lot of storage space. And if this thing will keep going on, then you can’t really make some exchanges with your friends. So, I think this would be really interesting for them as well.

FrancisFrancis

Okay. So the story in a nutshell, I used a service called Fiverr where you can outsource small tasks for $5 apiece. And one of these tasks is to expand your Dropbox. I actually wrote about it on my site.

In other words, you owe me a beer because I spent $5 for you and now you are able to upload much more videos. I’ve actually used the service myself years ago. And it expanded my Dropbox to 66 gigabytes.

But I think this offer is only valid for 2 years and then it will go back to 20 gigabytes. Nevertheless, the expansion is very useful in storage of my videos. In my case, I do a lot of exchanges of my very own screen recording videos to my team of virtual assistants. It is mostly helpful with work related files since it can go around with my computers.

Can you imagine or do you have any idea that such services exist?

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Well, to be honest, I had no idea that this is possible. In fact, I was really disappointed with my Dropbox because I couldn’t upload all the videos I made at the party recently.

I was forced to delete them and then send another link to my friends and delete them again so I will be able to load in the new videos. It was a tedious work—you know. I am so grateful that you showed it to me.

FrancisFrancis

Don’t mention it. I know your interests are really elsewhere and that is not with outsourcing virtual assistants and all that stuff.

But, if a service like this one exists, you can imagine that there might be some cool stuff out there that you can have and others will do it for a very affordable amount of money. This kind of service can make your life:

  • easier
  • more fun
  • more streamlined

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Of course.

FrancisFrancis

Okay, another follower is gained. Anyways, did you ever think about expanding your Dropbox the conventional way?

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Well, I wouldn’t want to pay €10 a month.  I’m a student so I don’t have a lot of money and €10 a month for me means a lot.

FrancisFrancis

Yes.

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

I know there are other services for web storage that are also expensive and have little storage space. Most of my friends are using Dropbox so I am really happy to have it upgraded.

FrancisFrancis

Yeah, Dropbox is definitely the mainstream in web storage. Everyone has an account and whoever does not have one should probably get one now. While it is true that Dropbox is not the only best online storage service, it’s one of the best for real time exchanges of files with different people as far as I’m concerned.

The best other alternative I would know would be Google Drive. But many people have issues with Google regarding privacy and stuff like that. And Dropbox has a quite stiff privacy and secrecy settings.

So, I agree that a lot of people like Dropbox even though it is not really the best. If you have big files, perhaps, you should use another online storage service just for that.

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Yeah. I think Dropbox is good enough for my usage and it’s very good because I only use it maybe to exchange some party photos. But if I will use it for your job or for professional stuffs, then you should probably use another service.

FrancisFrancis

One advantage that comes to mind for using Dropbox is if you have a modern Smartphone; Dropbox, of course, has a mobile app. And I use it more often to record audios on the go and share it directly to my Dropbox.

Whenever I’m on wireless LAN, it uploads fast. So I agree that other storage don’t necessarily have a mobile application interface.

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Oh, it’s cool. I didn’t know that as well.

FrancisFrancis

Yeah. So, if you have a smartphone, you can take your Dropbox wherever you go.

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Do you know if they have it for iPhone too?

FrancisFrancis

I’m sure they have, definitely. (Here’s a link to the Dropbox app for the iPhone)

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Oh, that’s pretty neat.

FrancisFrancis

Okay, let’s wrap it up. Are there any other thoughts perhaps regarding your Dropbox expansion?

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

Well, I got it for a few bucks and I’m really happy with it. And I think I will be able to use it in a proper way now because I now have a decent space for file storage.

FrancisFrancis

Size does matter after all. *laughs*

anonymous-user-thumbLukas

When it comes to web storage, it does. 😉

FrancisFrancis

Thanks for sharing you thoughts!

Do you believe in building bridges between different people based on mutual trust and respect? Do you think doing this will allow both sides to draw the maximum from each other, and reach a win win situation? Where you win, and the other person - like a virtual assistant -also wins? If you do believe this, like I do, I think we should meet :)
