Effectively Using The Free Online Survey Tool – 5 Second Test

When you have to make a decision, collecting the wisdom of the masses relatively quickly can help you out a lot. That’s why you should know about using the free online survey tool “5 Second Test” effectively.

We’ll teach you how to use the service more efficiently to save you time and money.

How you will profit from our tips on using the five second test

The Click Test
User Guide

quick surveyes with 'the click test' user guide
or

  1. You will learn how to use the free online survey tool to the fullest without paying for its premium service
  2. You save time explaining how to do this by sending your virtual assistant step-by-step instructions from our ebook.
  3. You’ll get unbiased answers on all sorts of topics, fast.

Where this fee online survey tool comes in handy for you

For all things that you can put in pictures and have other people to choose between the options by a single click, the click test is a very useful free online survey tool.

Do you want to get a vote between two possibilities?

Put it to the test.

  • It could be a choice of pets.
  • It could be a choice of haircuts.

How would you do that?

Just edit your picture with Photoshop to have a few different haircuts and put them to the test with the click test.

Or

Ask a few questions about your style and what people could give you for tips.

Ask this girl if she can answer your survey questions!

If you are an online entrepreneur, then of course you can use it for a lot of different reasons.

  • You can split test different designs and ask for opinions.
  • You can get votes for different titles for your pages in order to maximize your click through rates.

Hint: There is a lot of profit for you if you are using this tactic.

  • Or you can monitor which different illustrations for an eBook cover (for example) have the biggest impact?

What sorts of tests get completed the fastest?

In general, the navigation and click tests will be those where you get responses the fastest. Perhaps even in a day.

Those sorts of tests are popular because you can complete them in literally one click. This also means you can get 1 Karma point in a few seconds yourself.

I have made the experience that the five second tests take the longest to get responses.

On the other hand, those five second tests are the best when you are looking for honest and neutral feedback.

For Example:

I have put both my website designs with a screenshot to the test and asked five questions about the design.

The responses were pretty drastic and honest.

How can you use the 5-second test website effectively if you don’t want to pay lots of money?

  1. The only way to get more free credits is to complete tests every day.
  2. This takes a lot of time.
  3. On the other hand, the subscription plans are a little bit too expensive for my taste.

So my fast an effective trick to circumvent time and money waste:

Ask your virtual assistant to create an account on his own and conduct tests on a regular basis, in order to keep your karma credits high.

  • If you want clear instructions for your virtual assistant to take care of the tests for you,
  • or if you want to get more insights into this service…

Free Job Search Websites You Need To Use

Searching job with magnifying glassWhen I was looking for a job, these are the free job search websites I used.

Since this research takes time and you must follow up daily with new job opportunities as they come up, a team of assistants manually researched other job opportunities in the meantime.

BEST WAYS TO JOB-HUNT

  1. Attend Job Fairs and actually go talk to people. They have the power to shortcut your application process.
  2. Use all the connections you possibly can: your family, your friends your social networks.
  3. Always call before applying for a job. Ask if the position is still open, and if your profile is of interest for this position. When you then apply, refer to the person you had a phone call with.

Monster – The International Job Searching Place

One of the best free job search websites is called Monster. It works for every country and is a great starting point in your job search efforts.

The goodies:

  1. You can upload your CV and will get contacted by people who are specifically interested in your profile. (In my case, I got contacted because someone was interested in my basic Japanese skills – pretty awesome!)
  2. You can set up different email alerts for different sorts of jobs. (In my case, I was interested in general chemistry jobs as well as work in the area of biochemistry and pharmacy.)
  3. You can set up how often you want to get email. Personally, I chose weekly, because it was hard keeping up with daily email alerts.
  4. Your data is safe.

StepStone – another useful Job Search Engine

StepStone is another free job search website I really like to use. In fact, for this website I like to get daily updates.

Just as with Monster, you can get Job updates for different search profiles and follow up on the job openings in a timely manner. When I apply to a position, I always specify where I got the information of the job opening from.

At the end of the subject line of your application, write something like

“– Your Job Offer on StepStone “

The Limitation:

Unfortunately, it’s more useful for you if you are based in the EU.

Using Social Networks as free Job Search Websites

Posting “Hey guys, please help me get a job” on Facebook might be a good start. Leverage your friends, by all means.

But there are more powerful social networking sites that are made for professional use out there. Let me share two networks with you that I actually use personally.

Using LinkedIn as a Job Search Website

Linkedin® logoLinkedIn is a professional networking site. Just like Facebook, but without funny photos and much more… serious. It works internationally.

You can find job openings on this site too, and get email notifications just like for the full-fledged job search sites above. Oh, and don’t forget to submit your CV here, too.

The Pros and Cons:

  1. Another place to find job openings from, as well as a place to network with collegues from work and the official web presences of potential employers.
  2. A great place to have professional conversations on. Especially if you are looking to become a freelancer yourself.
  3. The contra? It’s another social network, so it is bound to take up some of your time.

Using Xing – Especially in Germany

Free Xing icon from Icon ShockIf you are from Germany, then Xing is actually even more well-known than LinkedIn.

(When in Germany, you should do like the Germans.)

Same deal: you can submit ýour CV, browse through the profiles of your employers and connect with people.

Tip:

Using your personal profile link to either LinkedIn or Xing is a great piece of information to put on your business cards.

(You have some, right…?)

Fixed Price vs Hourly Rate, Which One Is More Beneficial And Why?

Business man holding stop watch in his handFixed price vs hourly rate is part-2 of the second interview from Stefan from Germany, who lives the Four Hour Work Week lifestyle in Thailand.

Click here to read part 1– What to Look For In a Virtual Assistant

Summary:

  • Sometime providers do not work for exact hours they have committed at the time of hiring, often they work less than that.
  • You should check the profile of your contractor to know that how many active jobs he is having at the same time.
  • If you have an agreement of 10 hours with a provider and he is continuously failing to meet this limit, then this is a clear breach of the contract.

Start of the Interview:

Francis
Francis:

Okay. I have a question to you first. It seems to me that you are paying your worker based on a milestone agreement. In other words, you are paying him on a fixed price schedule. Did you ever employ someone with an hourly pay?

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

Yes.

Francis
Francis:

What was your experience with fixed price vs hourly rate?

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

What my experience was when I paid my workers hourly was they still did less often after a while. But to me, it seems like they don’t care if they earn less.

They just work less hours. And if I ask them, “What’s going on? Why are you not even working the 10 hours per week?”

Francis
Francis:

Yes.

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

You just work 4 hours per week. What’s going on? They will just say, “I couldn’t do more.”

Francis
Francis:

Didn’t you ever check out the profile of your worker in oDesk and see how many other actual contracts they had going on at the same time? Sometimes people work into several employers at the same time.

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

Yes.

Francis
Francis:

Was this perhaps the reason that they could not work more for you?

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

Can’t give you a feedback on that, I think, because I don’t know too much about that.

Francis
Francis:

Okay. Sometimes this happens and then of course you have to talk about this. And say, “Well if you work for 10 other people, it’s clear you cannot work 10 hours per week for me.”

Did you make an agreement beforehand that they have to work 10 hours a week for you?

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

When we had a contract for time, yes.

Francis
Francis:

Okay then, in my opinion, that’s a breach of the contract. And that in my opinion you can tell them square and fair, “Well, we had an agreement 10 hours per week, you’re not delivering. What would be the next step?”

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

Leaving the job. That’s my experience. That’s what the workers are doing.

Francis
Francis:

Okay. So clearly you have a problem setting up the initial trust.

stefan employer interview
Stefan:

Because just leaving the job seems easier. It seems like an easy escape, “Oh, there’s a problem. I just flee.” You know?

Fiverr – Outsourcing Made Fun

Want to get a Job done for $5?One of the easiest, fastest and most fun ways to try out having others work for you is to use the service of Fiverr.com.

Personally, I have played around with it way too much. It is just too addictive to have a simple fast job gotten done by someone else for a seemingly really small price of $5.

It can add up – but it is a lot of fun. You can treat it as a hobby and easily learn the basics of outsourcing: choosing an employee, hiring him and giving him feedback.

Here are some things that can be done for $5 and that I have tried out myself:

  • I got one of my websites critiqued and discussed via video
  • Many people offer to write articles for you
  • It is possible to get your Dropbox account expanded. You’ll have up to 18 Gigabytes of free Dropbox space. This gig is really recommended
  • I got people to do funny videos for me where they behaved like a clown
  • I asked another person to write 40 high quality comments on another blog for five dollars
  • I got myself a Facebook fan page created – without knowing anything about it

Fiver is best suited for jobs that are related to internet marketing or work with a website. So, if you have one, you will find many interesting gigs there.

Gigs are what Fiverr calls its jobs.

Some gigs are really crazy

But you will find really fun stuff too.

  • Toba Beta's Famous SayingFrom beautiful girls sending you pictures with your name – or any text you want – on partially covered private parts
  • Until creative videos with costumes or animals,
  • People taking photos while holding up signs with a text of your choice at different places all around the world
  • And people handcrafting small gifts and sending them for you.

You name it, you will find it.

Advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing to Fiverr

Advantages are:

  • It’s fast and hassle-free
  • It’s fun
  • It’s crazy
  • There are many possible tasks and you can suggest your own wishes
  • And it’s pretty cheap (comparative)

Disadvantages are:

  • It’s addictive
  • The cost can add up
  • You intend to buy stuff which you don’t really need. Just for having fun with it.

Hire a virtual assistant for $5And one real disadvantage is that Fiverr has grown so big that many people, especially doing gigs related to article writing, internet business and SEO, are taking over the market place. And some SEO related gigs are not so lucrative in my opinion.

If you look closely at some of the social marketing and business gigs, then you probably will find someone better on oDesk or a similar outsourcing service.

One solution for that last point is to check out some of the copycat websites which are similar to Fiverr:

  • Justafive.com (gigs cost 5, 10 or 20 $, depending on how big they are)
  • Tenyt (similar, only for 10$ you’ll get bigger tasks done)
  • Fittytown (also similar, but all gigs cost 50 $. Look here if you need a serious job done at a fixed price)

Those alternative sites are smaller andyou might find more real and down to earth gigs there.

But no matter which of those sites you choose to use, have fun with it. Try to get your feet wet with outsourcing.

Ready for Outsourcing Like the Big Shots?

Have you gotten the taste of how fun it can be that someone does some internet work for you overnight?

Then you’ll want to learn about hiring a virtual assistant in an effective way.

Case Studies

Below I made some case studies of specific gigs I have created and what lessons I have learned from them.

What Gigs Did You Do?

Did you try outsourcing for a $5 task?

What did you try to have others do?

Or is there something which you think you would want to do for five dollars?

How Do You Fire an Assistant Who is Unfit for the Job?

firing an employeeFire assistant is part-12 of an interview with Eric, a fellow entrepreneur interested in outsourcing his work to virtual assistants all over the world.

Follow along to learn from our experience on working with VAs!

Click here to read part 11 of this interview – Learn how to setup initial tasks with virtual assistants

Summary:

  • How to not get emotionally involved with your virtual assistant to avoid letting emotions guide your decisions
  • Learn how to fire assistants who do not fit the job title nicely without getting too emotionally attached
  • Learn when is the right time to fire your virtual assistant

Start of the Interview:

Francis
Francis

Because then it gets emotional and then you are not able to, for example, fire that assistant anymore.

anonymous-user-thumb
Eric

Yeah, that’s true. Yeah, you don’t want to go right out at the gate and really just get to know their entire family and take them up for lunch or whatever. Then they’re doing a bad job and then you want to get rid of them and you can’t.

Francis
Francis

I really do believe that also you should be open and upfront with your expectations and how you handle failure. This will take a lot of the misery and anxiety hopefully away from the virtual assistant.

So, for example, you are a very well hard-core employer. Perhaps, that’s your style or anyone’s style and you say, “Okay, you can make one mistake and then it’s over.”

I don’t believe that’s very efficient. But, if you are like that and you cannot change then so be it. You will find perhaps someone who’s able to be holding up these standards for some price.

But then your assistant knows how hard and specific he can work before he delivers anything.

For me, the expectation is you can make lots of mistakes as long as we learn from it. It’s okay. And as long as we talk and we don’t stop talking about it, it’s okay. So, I was never abused in this situation that an assistant made too many mistakes because no assistant is really that inefficient. But, it gives them sort of the possibility to really try out a few things.

anonymous-user-thumb
Eric

Yeah, definitely. Because, I think that you have to really take the time. Like, I know with my VA, I was sort of getting closer upfront and I was noticing some different things that she was lacking on or things that maybe weren’t as up to par as what I expected.

And it may be harder for me to kind of be like, “Okay, let’s re-evaluate our situation.” Well, I was kind of felt like I was obligated to continue to pay her even though it was necessarily something that I should’ve continued to do

Filipino Business Ethics

The Insider View Of A Virtual Assistant From The Philippines

In the years of my experience working as a regular employee, I’ve encountered a lot of faces with different traits and characters.

I know for a fact that I can’t conclude every individual’s attitude since we have our own abilities and capabilities. But, one thing is for sure, I know what I am going to tackle in this post and some may not be about others taste or too harsh, but let’s face it—it’s called reality.

Francis the employer

Filipino as we are

Jomvie - Fulltime Virtual Assistant from the Philippines

Filipinos are known to be very hospitable and accommodating. Yes, we are. Even in our own home, we love to accommodate and gather around over some delicious foods (food is the easiest way to get to your friends and family). We love long talks and a get together after a long week of work.

But, what is it really like to be in our workplace?

What is the true essence of the Filipino’s way to do business?

How do they treat each other?

We all know for a fact that in every workplace, there are competitions may it be healthy or not. And in every success comes with different reactions. As an insider to this delicate topic, I will get you to my workplace.

The worst aspects of Filipino work ethics

We all want a decent and a good paying job. And what if I’ll tell you that mostly one of the better paying job in our country needs an access inside?  And if not, a jealous workmate who will do anything just to pull you down before your promotion?

Here are the top following dirty work ethics that are commonly seen in our workplace.

  • Padrino System “Palakasan” When it comes to work or job referral, “Padrino System” also known in our local dialect as “Palakasan”  is one of the most common, most corrupt, unfair and dirtiest way of getting a job in the government and/or other private industry without the hassle.I am not in the right place to rant this out, but this kind of system is an open secret and I hate this personally. I know I am not alone in this war, and there’s nothing that we can do about it because it has rotten its way up to the top.
  • Crab mentality It’s a metaphor that refers to a basket of crabs. Instead of getting out individually, one will grab and pull each other down.Just like in a workplace setup, if you are highly recommended to get promoted for your good performance, some of your workmate might not like it and will do anything and will try to expose something not good from the past just to prevent you from getting that position. It sounds like an excerpt from a movie, but seriously, it happens in reality, especially in a big company and/or even in small industry.
  • BackstabbingWe all love some chit chat with our friends and most especially in our workplace since we spend most of our time in there. But, we cannot deny that along with that chit chats, it comes along with gossips and/or talking about other peoples’ lives behind their back.I, personally, hate this kind of attitude where you’ll talk about others when you didn’t know personally what they have been through to survive their everyday life.We don’t have the right in any way to belittle someone or somebody and that we should keep our noses to its rightful place and mind our own life and be good at it.
Francis point of view about Filipino Virtual Assistants

Filipinos’ best character traits for doing business

Philippines Fruit BasketFilipinos are creative, fun and extremely optimistic. Coupled with their natural sense for doing business and coming up with ideas on how to make money, this is very refreshing.

Of course, in every con, there comes a pro. I might have fired up a little earlier in our discussion, but behind all those negative traits, there are some good behavior and character that overweighs the bad.

Naturally, Filipinos have the sweet and homey aura that will surely lighten up your day—a true Filipino business ethics. Despite the competitions and teeth grinding behaviors in the workplace, someone will always be there to brighten your day.

Like what I said, I can’t conclude this issue for everyone, but speaking for myself through my experiences, we have the attitude to:

  • “Never give up”
  • “Try and try, until you succeed”
  • “No pain, no gain” / “No guts, no glory”

Personally, I have within me the trait, “To never give up, keep pushing yourself to the limit, and don’t let the obstacles hinder your success.”

Life may be full of strife, but at the end of the day, a true Filipino will always live by these words,

“huwag kang susuko sa pagsubok ng buhay”

(In English, that means “Don’t give up on whatever life may bring”)

Optimism is the key

Philippines poor roadside living people

The busy street of the metro where you’ll see different faces of the small-time vendors along the pathway making a living. These people are commonly known as “one scratch, one peck”, an average percentage of the country’s population.

I lived in a country where poverty rate shoots sky high, where a higher percentage of families sleeping at night without anything in their stomach. But, despite all that demise, you’ll never see them break down and cry for help for the rest of the day.

They will always try and look for something and/or anything to be able to bring something to their family at the end of the day.

Yes, most employees live in a day to day basis, just like a “one scratch, one peck” or in other term “living paycheck to paycheck”.

But, do we stop from there?

Instead, we make it as a strong hold to reach for our goals in life.

That’s why they always say, “Habang may buhay, may pag-asa.”

(In English, “While there is life, there is hope.”)

A Smile Can Mend A Broken Spirit

It’s not always a happy time—there are times that we don’t see the light of the day in our lives (it’s a metaphor). We all go through rough and tough that seems endless, but we never forget to put a smile on our faces.

The best trait that I’ve ever seen most of my entire life is that Filipinos will never let the storm and sadness overcome their lives—they will always get on their feet and stand all throughout the darkest hour.

Just Perception and Life Disposition

We all have that bad and good side, but we should always remember to put them into the right perspective. We have differences and that makes us so unique from each and every one. And no matter what race or color you have, it will always depend on how you see life.

A mall in the Philippines
This is taken inside the mall, where you’ll see different people in all walks of life, doing their own thing. Some will go and buy their basic necessities, others were there to socialize and/or just to cool off their minds (and bodies, as there is air conditioning!).
